The U.S. Congress Passes the Serve America Act!
With overwhelming bipartisan support, the U.S. Congress passed a historic piece of legislation that will greatly expand community service and volunteerism. Democrats Work volunteers generated nearly 2,000 emails into the offices of our representatives. Great work!
The Party of Service . . .

Check out the op-ed published in Roll Call about building the Party of Service - called "The Audacity of Scope: An Expanded Mission for the DNC" - written by Democrats Work co-founders Thomas Bates and Jason Carter. |
We are on the brink of something really big. After two and a half years of hard work, we are truly on the cusp of transforming the Democratic Party into the party of service. More and more people are embracing our brand of service-based politics. Every day we get calls and emails from local organizations and inspired volunteers who want to bring our brand of politics to their communities.
We want to support these efforts. We need your help to make it happen. We have launched the Party of Service Action Fund to support the work of Democratic organizations and grassroots organizers who are making community service part of their political activism.
Please click here to contribute $25, $50, $200, or more to the Party of Service Action Fund. These funds will allow us to work closely with state and local Democratic organizations to train leaders, empower volunteers, and support even more service projects. Through your actions, you have become the best advocates for this new type of service-based politics. With your generous contribution, we will be able to expand the reach of our successful approach.
Give to the Party of Service Action Fund and help us spread our mission even further.Renew America Together . . .

Thank you for your hard work during the "Renewing America Together" National Day of Service on Monday, January 19th (and the weekend before). Thousands of Democrats Work volunteers got to work to bring about the change we need - working at food banks, helping local non-profits, painting schools, cleaning up neighborhoods.
We've uploaded some photos from events on our
Flickr page. Please send us links to your Flickr page or email your pictures to

Yes We Cans raises over $28,000 for food banks

Thanks to the Democrats Work community for contributing over $28,000 to food banks across the country. We have all heard how food banks are struggling in these tough economic times . . . and we did something about it.
Because of you, the
Yes We Cans Virtual Food Drive was a huge success. Over 100,000 meals will be donated to those in need.
What a year!
During the last several months, we have seen the new politics of service catch on across the country. Here are some highlights:
- Ready, Set, CO! mobilized hundreds of volunteers to get the metro Denver area ready for the history making Democratic National Convention.
- Delegate Service Day gave the delegates a chance to give back during the Convention, including Michelle Obama, President and Mrs. Carter, and a thousand delegates who took on projects throughout Denver.
- Obama Works joined with Democrats Work to keep the action moving with a national day of service on September 6th.
- Service Nation took that theme and ran it farther than most would think possible, and Democrats Work volunteers joined with thousands of people across America who on September 27th put their values into action.
When we are done casting our ballots, we will be back to make sure the politics of service lives beyond November. In fact, we are just getting started.
